Mechmine monitors the bearings of a critical decanter in a water treatment plant in the NW of Switzerland.
Centrifuges and decanters are the working horses in many chemical processes. The unique decanter design, with turning drum and a turning screw inside, makes measuring bearing vibrations a real challenge. Common measures, like RMS velocity according to ISO-10816-3, are of limited use because of the influence of the varying medium density and the high speed, often beyond 3000 RPM, which together affect the machine vibration level. A working alternative is the FNR (fault-frequency to noise ratio) measurement, based on high resolution data, which Mechmine employs.
